My Favorite macOS Extensions

I call them Extensions because they just compliment the OS.

Not a fancy Buzzfeed List. Okay, maybe it is. ;)

Magnet

$4.99 — This is by far the best and easiest to use macOS Window “Manager” on the market. It will bring back flexibility when working with windows like it did when you might ever worked with Windows (7 upwards). And for $4.99 you can’t really make a mistake. I really think, this mac app should be pre-installed on all Macs — especially on all corporate Macs.

Magnet works smoothly will all your external displays as well (the vendor states up to six external displays), no matter what orientation you prefer — if landscape or portrait. Magnet just does its job: helping you arrange windows better on your screen.

Check out their website, it’s worth it.

New File Menu

$1.99 — Bring the Context Menu File Creation to macOS. This could be what the developer of New File Menu could have thought building this “app”. And it works, using this extension feels like: “that’s what was missing in the Finder Context Menu”.

Webcam Settings

$7.99 — it does what the name says: you can adjust settings of your webcam. Even the ones for your built in FaceTime “HD” Webcam. This little helper lets you adjust the Exposure Time, Brightness, Contrast, lets you do Color Correction, or even reduce Noise. When you are not only working on your Laptop but also often change locations (in what “change” a location could mean in 2020/2021) then you will have to deal with several different light environments and different webcams, depending on the workspace you use then — this “extension” will give you back your “confidence” on switching on your webcam in the next meeting. Because: you just look beautiful as you are — with a little better light correction. :)

Carrot Weather

$14.99 — Ahem.

I’m forecasting a 57% chance that meme stocks will successfully bring BlackBerry back from the dead.

Isn’t that already worth this little “fortune”? The Developer(s) of Carrot Weather created one of the best Weather Apps on Earth for all of us Meatbags. I don’t care if it’s worth 3 Beer in Pub.

You might ask: why is a Weather App in this “macOS Extensions List”?

Because of the beautiful Menu bar Status Icons and this well-crafted floating panel with the information I need.

iTerm2

FREE — Snippets, Profiles, Scripts, Composer, … and many more.

Well, it’s a CLI Terminal for your command line input and output. But more versatile than the original built in Terminal. Ahh, and not to forget: Tabs. iTerm2 is a tabbed Terminal Application.

There are probably 10k more people out there who can tell about all the excellent details and advantages of iTerm2, but I’m simply happy using this little App.
